Cas Oorthuys route

Rotterdam Routes, together with the Nederlands Fotomuseum, created a new walking route around the work of Dutch photographer Cas Oorthuys. With the walk, voiced by Joris Lutz, you get to know the city through the historical photos of Oorthuys. Because if there is anyone who has captured Rotterdam in all its facets, it is Cas Oorthuys!

Cas Oorthuys (1908-1975) was a photographer, optimist, world traveler and family man with an oeuvre comparable to international names such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Werner Bischof. Just as landscape painters from the seventeenth century determined the image of the Netherlands for centuries, Oorthuys does this with his photography: with lots of wind and water, impressive cloudy skies and an open, tidy landscape. In Rotterdam, he particularly captured the dynamism and optimism of reconstruction. He also traveled all over the world.
